Armen Movsessian - Violin
Armen Movsessian began his formal training as a violinist at the age of seven and received his high school diploma from the Tchaikovsky School of Music for the musically gifted. Armen then earned his B. A. and Masters from the Yerevan Conservatory N.A. Komitas in Yerevan, Armenia under the leadership of Professor W. Mokatsian. In 1990, when Armen first moved to the United States he competed in the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Shortly afterwards, Armen moved to Boston where he served on the facility of Clark University at the prestigious Longy School of Music, where he also earned his Artist Diploma in Performance with Distinction in 1992 under the leadership of Professor Sophie Vilker. He also performed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and served as Concertmaster for the Panama National Symphony in Panama City, Panama.
Armen has performed numerous recitals, which have been aired on WCBH-Classical radio, Boston Belmont Cable TV, Radio Panama, Cambridge Cable TV, and Teatro National Live Broadcast in Buenos Aires in Argentina. He has also performed with the New Hampshire Symphony, and given several solo performances in the United States, Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, Germany, Russia and Armenia.
Currently Armen resides in Los Angeles, CA where he is active with various orchestras, including the LA Opera. He also routinely performs for sound track recordings with the major motion picture companies. In addition, Armen regularly works with many well-known artists including Ray Charles, Barry White, Yanni, Sarah Brightman, Natalie Coll, Andrea Bochelli and many others.
Alexey Shabalin - Violin
Alexey Shabalin was born in Russia and studied at the Moscow Conservatory under Professors Bezrodny and Melnikov. He completed his postgraduate studies in violin performance in 1995. He has won several awards including 3rd prize at the Soviet Interstate String Quartet (1991); a semifinalist at the International Bashmet Competition (1991) and an award at the International Bashmet Competition (1995).
For several years, Alexey was a member of the world-renown "Moscow Soloists" Chamber Orchestra. He has performed at Albert Hall (London), Concertgebau (Amsterdam), Pleyel Hall (Paris), Syney Opera Hall, Symphony hall (Tokyo) and Trivoli Hall (Copenhagen). During Alexey's tenure with the "Moscow Soloists", he played at the world premiere of Shnitke's Triple Concerto featuring Rostropovich (cello), Kremer (violin) and Bashmet (viola) as soloists.
Alexey moved to the United States in 1996 where he has performed multiple solo and orchestral recitals throughout New England including Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, Mechanics Hall (Worchester), TSAI Performance Center, MIT Chapel and Longy School of Music. His solo recital in 1997 at the TSAI Performance Center earned him a glowing review by Michael Manning of the Boston Globe, calling Alexey "a very gifted and unusually personal violinist". In March 2002, he performed with the Indian Hill Symphony a Triple Concerto by Beethoven.
Alexey currently lives in Rhode Island with his family and teaches at MIT and Brown University.
Arman Mourzagaliev - Violin
Arman Mourzagaliev is a graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory,where he completed his masters degree and post-graduate studies. Mr.Mourzagaliev was born in Kazakstan in 1969 and started his violin studies at the age of six with noted Kazakstani pedagogue Svetlana Abdusadikova. After winning First Prize at the National Violin Competition in 1984 in Pavlodar, Mr.Mourzagaliev made his debut perfomances on Natiolnal Radio and TV. Following the advice from his teacher he left Kazakstan in 1987 to study at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with such distinguished violinistst as Levon Ambartsumian, Igor Bezrodny and Zorya Schikhmurzaeva. In 1995 Mr Mourzagaliev moved to America to continue his studiy with Levon Ambartsumian. In addition to his primary teachers Mr.Mourzagaliev has studied and collaborated with Josef Silverstein, Leon Kirchner, Roman Tottenberg, Raphael Hilliyer, Menahem Pressler. Mourzagaliev has perfomed as soloist, chamber musician and contemporary music interpreter at the Sanders Theater in Cambridge, Ferenz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, the Moscow State Philharmony, Maliy Zal of the Moscow Conservatory, Kazak State Philharmony, Prechistenka Concert Hall in Moscow, Boston"s Jordan Hall and Pickman Hall of the Longy School of Music. Mr.Mourzagaliev is the recipient of numerous awards for his perfomances including the Stipend of the Soros Foundation(Moscow,1993), Diploma of the Natiolnal Violin Competition(Almaty,Kazakstan 1985). He is also a prize-winner of the Crane Festival of New Music(Potsdam,N.Y.,1999). Mr.Mourzagaliev's recent appearances include recitals in his native Kazakstan and USA.
Jim Hanna - Violist
James F. Hanna is a freelance violist in the Los Angeles area, where he is active as an orchestral, chamber and studio musician. Jim currently holds the position of principal violist with the California Philharmonic Orchestra & the Chamber Orchestra of South Bay, and regularly performs with the Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra, Glendale Symphony Orchestra, and Pasadena Pops. Jim also performs with the Cal Arts Chamber Players and the California Chamber Soloists and has performed live on KUSC radio with the Pacific Composers Forum. He is also active in the studio, having recorded for both television and film. In addition to his own private studio, Hanna is adjunct professor of viola at California Lutheran University and The Masters College.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana and a graduate of Louisiana State Universitys School of Music, Jim was co-principal violist with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and a member of their resident chamber group, the Valcour String Quartet. Along with their numerous commissions and premiers, the Valcour String Quartet was featured in Martinus Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra, with the BRSO. While in Louisiana, Jim also performed with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (formerly the New Orleans Philharmonic) and was a member of the Louisiana Artist Roster.
Jim resides in Simi Valley, California, with his wife, Debbie and son, Blake.
Alexander Zhiroff - Cellist
Alexander Zhiroff began his training on cellist as a child, studying under Maestros A. Georghian, A. Latinsky and J. Sobodkin, which were some of Russias most respected cello teachers at that time. He graduated with his doctorate in Music, earning Honors, from the Gnessian Institute in Moscow and then was invited to join the faculty as the primary musical instructor. A few years later, Alexander went to Cuba as Professor of Cello and a solo performer at the Superior Institute of Arts. He returned to Russia in 1985 and served as Chairman of the String Department at the Sergei Rachmaninoff Conservatory of Music.
Alexander frequently performs in chamber music recitals, as well as a solo artist. On multiple occasions, he has been the featured soloist with the State Philharmonic and the Union of Soviet Composers. Alexander has recorded as a soloist for EGREM Records in Cuba, the BBC in Scotland and Gosteleradio in Russia. He now lives in Los Angeles and freelances with the movie and television industries, as well as recording with well-known artists. He also has a busy teaching schedule giving private cello lessons.
